VOLUNTEER

Volunteers play an important role at Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) as they allow us to offer high-quality care to our animals while helping to contain costs all while ensuring the animals in our care remain happy and healthy while they wait for their forever homes. Volunteers can be found in all aspects of our organization, from those who help with special events to those who work directly with the adoptable animals and assist staff in ensuring they all have clean beds to lay their heads on at night.

Our complete list of volunteer opportunities is listed below. Please click on each position to learn more about it including commitments, requirements, responsibilities, qualifications, and shift times.

Renovations at EBHS are underway! Due to disruptions to shelter operations during this time, we are accepting new volunteer applications but will be welcoming new volunteers on a limited basis.

Junior Volunteers

Elmbrook Humane Society allows children as young as 12 years old to volunteer in certain volunteer activities. To learn more about Junior Volunteering, please click here.

Our Junior Volunteer Release Form (for parental consent) can be found here.

Group Opportunities

We welcome group volunteers to EBHS to help us with tasks such as deep cleaning, organizing, doing laundry and dishes, seasonal grounds keeping, and other tasks as they are needed.

We are able to facilitate groups of 10 before 1:00pm on Monday-Friday in 2 hour shifts. Group volunteer individuals must be 16 years or older. If you are interested in group volunteering, please email [email protected].

Have a group larger than 10 people? We are looking for 200+ volunteers to help us at Wagfest, one of our largest fundraisers of the year, which is held the Saturday after Labor Day, annually. If your large group is interested in helping out, please email [email protected].

Unable to come to the shelter and volunteer?  Visit Ways to Support Us on our homepage for other ways you and your group can get involved.

Based on the needs of EBHS, we accept court ordered and non-court ordered Community Service volunteers looking to fulfill a specific amount of volunteer hours. Community Service volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and not have charges that include theft and/or abuse or neglect of people or animals. Community Service volunteer shifts are 3 hours long and are pre-scheduled with the Volunteer Manager before the start of volunteering. Hours must be between 9a-6p Monday through Friday. We do not offer weekend volunteering for Community Service volunteers.
