VOLUNTEER

Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) holds our volunteers in high regard as integral contributors to our organization. Working hand in hand with our staff team, volunteers play a crucial role in promoting animal awareness throughout our community. They actively participate in educating the public about responsible pet ownership, facilitating connections between adoptable shelter pets and loving families, and providing our shelter pets with the exceptional love and care they deserve. The impact of our dedicated volunteers is immeasurable, and we acknowledge that we could not achieve all that we do without their unwavering commitment and support!

Follow the steps below to become a volunteer:

Prior to completing the volunteer application, please watch New Volunteer Orientation: Part 1 to familiarize yourself with Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS).

New Volunteer Orientation: Part 1 (12 minutes)

Option 1: Attend New Volunteer Orientation: Part 2 and Shelter Tour in-person.

Option 2: Attend New Volunteer Orientation: Part 2 virtually, complete a subsequent review AND attend Shelter Tour in-person

All new volunteers must complete the New Volunteer Orientation & Shelter Tour prior to participating in training for your specific activity. You’ll learn valuable information about our programs and policies so you can start your volunteer work equipped with the information you need to successfully contribute to our mission.

As part of our on-boarding experience, we kindly ask for a minimum donation of $15. Your support is greatly appreciated as it helps us cover the costs associated with volunteer onboarding. Additionally, it helps fund volunteer appreciation events, additional training, groups activities and more!

Your completed application will aid us in assessing whether your interests and availability align with our current needs at the shelter. Our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you within 1-2 weeks of receiving your application.

Volunteer Application

You will meet with a designated staff member or volunteer who will provide hands-on training in your new role and finalize your volunteer schedule.

After these steps are completed, you’re ready to volunteer! Please note that the entire process, including training, may take up to 1-2 months, depending on factors such as timing, the desired position, and other considerations. We appreciate your patience and thank you for expressing interest in joining our volunteer team!

Have a group larger than 10 people? We are looking for 200+ volunteers to help us at Wagfest, one of our largest fundraisers of the year, which is held the Saturday after Labor Day, annually. If your large group is interested in helping out, please email nicolel@ebhs.org.

Unable to come to the shelter and volunteer?  Visit Ways to Support Us on our homepage for other ways you and your group can get involved.

Based on the needs of EBHS, we accept court ordered and non-court ordered Community Service volunteers looking to fulfill a specific amount of volunteer hours. Community Service volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and not have charges that include theft and/or abuse or neglect of people or animals. Community Service volunteer shifts are 3 hours long and are pre-scheduled with the Volunteer Manager before the start of volunteering.
